However, in this case, it is the boogeyman living in the closet. The story “The Boogeyman,” consists of two main characters; Lester Billings and Dr. Harper. Dr. Harper is a therapist trying to help Lester. Lester Billings is a twenty-eight year old from Waterbury, Connecticut. Billings is a father to three children and a husband of a lady named Rita. He married in 1965, and had their first born soon after. Denny was the name of the first born. Billings had to leave college and get a job when Denny was born, but Billings did not mind. Rita got pregnant just a little while after Denny was born, and Shirl came along in December of 1966. Andy was their third child that came in the summer of 1969, but Denny was dead by then. Moreover, Andy was an accident. Lester Billings is not the typical parent. He is the parent who will not allow his child to sleep with a night light because he does not want his kids being wimps when they are grown. He does not believe in spoiling kids. However, that is not what makes him a different parent. He is not a typical parent because all three of his children died before they reached a teenager. Harper solution was to make an appointment with the nurse. However, Lester went to the nurse to make an appointment, but the nurse was not in the office. Lester came back to Dr. Harper’s office, and there was no sign of Dr. Harper. However, the closet door was open. Just a crack. “The Boogeyman” reflects a story of the old childhood monster. Lester is a man who wants to be strong and not scared of anything, but finds himself in a situation where he is nothing but scared. Lester went through a lot in a short time, and finds that the Boogeyman will haunt him until it has taken him. The Boogeyman has taken everything away from Lester from his dignity to his family. Lester also believes the Boogeyman has taken other lives, but the bodies are undiscoverable. The last thing that was told was, “’So nice,’ the boogeyman said as it shambled out.
