Thus, I put my best foot forward in the race. I bought hundreds of “Vote Alyssa K.” stickers and pencils to hand out. I would occasionally find my opponent trying to out-do my posters, but I figured that could only harm her campaign. Instead of becoming discouraged and giving in to her attempt to intimidate me, I decided to work twice as hard to get my name out. Finally, election day came and you could hear the adrenaline pumping through my veins. “Your 2016-2017 Student Council President is…Marissa Williams.” In other words, I lost. I felt a flash of emotion; shocked that students ignored my validity, embarrassed because I was so sure that I would be elected, and even upset with the urge to prove that the votes had been rigged.
