Lessons Learned Behaviors In Children

Decent Essays
While I do agree that there is a correlation between the child’s inborn temperament (discussed on page 188-187) and environmental influences that triggers aggressive behaviors among children, I still believe that aggression is a learned behavior, and the BOBO Doll experiment explains it all. I have seen many pieces of evidence of learned behaviors in my children and other people's children. For example, first of all, I know that yelling is as bad as spanking, so I try very hard not to. However, sometimes kids are being disobedient brats, and I hate to admit that about 2 or 3 times, my daughters managed to push my buttons, and made me explode. I yelled at them and punished them by taking all their electronics. I believe my 3-year-old son had …show more content…
I have realized my mistake; I know my son learned it from me. Another example: growing up in the Philippines as biracial, especially if you are half black was not easy. As a child, I used to wonder why some kids were "my friends" and some were "not." As an adult, I understand now that racism is not something you were born with. It is "taught in our society [especially at home], it is not automatic. It is [a] learned behavior toward [people] with dissimilar physical characteristics" (Alex Haley). Just like my cousin who did not want to play with me when we were little kids and wouldn't touch my hand when we pray before dinner. According to her, her mom used to tell her that if she touches me, my color will rub off on her. She said that her mom has always been hostile towards people with different race. She believed that her mom learned it from her own parents who are also racists. My cousin is now a mother of two biracial children as well; half-Filipino and half-Black. I think living in a different country, or rather living in a different environment, changed her views about people with different races. She makes sure that her children will not be brought up the same way she was when she was a

As far as the Bobo Doll Experiment do you think the 5 year olds only reacted that way due to the video they watched? Do you think its possible that other factors could have come into play such as mental illness that these 5 year olds could have possibly had? I'm just curious to know how violence displayed on media would make an adolescent commit a violent crime. If media showed more happiness and positive behavior do you believe adolescent would display the…

For this extended assignment I have chosen to look at how behaviour may affect children's or young people's development. Negative behaviour can be seen when the children's and young people's needs are not being met such as lack of sleep and when they are hungry. Difficult behaviour can be caused by a trauma or a crisis that has happened in the child's life. Children may show this kind of behaviour because they want to be the centre of attention or if they are not getting their own way and they may behave inappropriately in order to get their own way. Other examples that could affect children's behaviour include if a member of the family in the child's life such as mother or father has left and they may think that it's their fault .Also…

Aggression refers to an array of behaviors that may have consequences in both physical and psychological harm to oneself, others, or objects in the environment. A particular example of social fact is racism. Racism is described as the belief in racial differences, which can cause discriminatory acts – where a distinct biological group is described as inferior; the members of a particular race are commonly faced with derogatory racial based comments, stereotypes and non-equal treatment. One of the main causes of racism is an individuals surrounding factors during their years of development and education – the passing down from generation to generation. Humans are not born racist; racism is a characteristic that is learnt, becoming intrinsic to the individual. One of the greatest foundations of racial issues in my opinion is Racial Profiling. Racial profiling is the act of suspecting or targeting a person of a certain race based on a stereotype about their race. In main words, it’s just basically stereotyping. Racial profiling seems to be big in law enforcement. A good example of racial profiling by the police is when A Hispanic driver is stopped in a "white" neighborhood because he "doesn’t belong there" or "looks to be out of place and/or a group of black teenagers are pulled over because of the kind of car they are driving.…

The arise of racial discrimination since the 1800’s has been a prominent and serious subject in societies throughout the world causing public unrest and violence. There have been marches, protests, charity events, gatherings, and many more attempts to try and abolish racism, but racism is not an obstacle that can just be completed with and forgotten. Racism is a disease that is spread rapidly and is impossible to erase entirely. Many individuals believe that racism is a choice people make, but in reality it is the influences surrounding those people as they are being raised. Many children have the same beliefs as their parents about racism because they feel as if their parents opinions aren’t opinions, they feel as if they are…

What gives a person the right to hate another person(s) just because they are not the same color? People think that since they are a different color, that they are different and deficient people. Some people think racism is just natural and people are born with it, but others may think that they have learned it from family and others in their life, or even a combination of both. People are racist because of what they have been taught, not because they were born that way.…

The Nature versus Nurture argument has been a complicated altercation for the past two centuries. While the ideas involved in the debate have existed for hundreds of years, the argument itself began in the 19th century. It can be considered one of the oldest arguments in history. Nativists and empiricists are the two names coined for those unequivocally declaring either nature or nurture as their standpoint. Nativists are for the nature side, which is in contrast to empiricists who are for the nurture perspective.…

Some types of learning may require reinforcement, but observational learning also referred to as social learning has no evident prior reinforcement (Feldman, 2013). Observational learning involves observing someone else’s behavior and learning from or mimicking the persons or models behavior in short, it is learning through modeling (Feldman, 2013).
