Deciding to be in a huge group of friends or being in a lesser group of friends is a tough decision. In my opinion, I would rather be part of a lesser group of friends. I would be part of a lesser group for an amount of reasons. To start off, there are fewer awkward social moments as there are less individuals to deal with. Moments where you are arguing with people in this group would also be reduced as well. Another pro is that you and everybody in that lesser group would know each other really well. There is also more freedom to explore within a lesser group; another pro. However, being in a lesser group also has some cons. It will be hard to change and try new things in a lesser group.
