TASERs are a hand-held electronic restraining and compliance device that delivers a paralyzing charge used as another alternative of less-lethal force by law enforcement. TASERS can be deployed at greater ranges than the close proximity of OC pepper sprays. When deployed at the target, it produces 50,000 volts of electricity and temporarily stuns and disables the suspect. Often after TASER deployment, the suspect immediately falls down and is taken into custody with little to no resistance. Consider a scenario whereas a police officer has already pepper-sprayed a violent man, who then decided to advance at the officer while clenching his fists. Or perhaps consider a scenario of an emotional 12-year old boy inflicting harm to himself with a piece of glass. In these scenarios, the suspect is already a threat to himself and the officer. The responding officers has very limited choices of force to control the suspect. Hand tactics, batons, and pepper-spray would not be effective in subduing these suspects who are already experiencing injuries.
