Leslie Graham: A Short Story

Improved Essays
Leslie Graham looked at herself in the mirror. She had to be at the bus stop in 30 minutes. She has to be presentable enough to both not attract to much attention from the school or her classmates. She had a clean face. No freckles, no pimples, no other third thing that goes on face. She wore no glasses. Her face was.......okay. Her eyes were a beautiful dark blue that she got from her dad's side of the family. Thank God it wasn't her mother's eyes. They were a boring brown. She had brown dreadlocks, which were unfortuanatly all natrually grown. She can not get rid of them. She takes great care of her hair, but it keeps growing back. Leslie shrugged. It wasn't long enough and it was hot outside. So wearing a hoodie was a bad idea. She sighed. She had to eat breakfeast before going to school so she had no time to change. She quickly went downstairs. Her parents were still asleep, and her grandma was up getting coffee. " You don't need to be so loud." Leslie covered her mouth and mumbled an apology. It was a bad habit. She gets too loud sometimes. "It's okay. Don't be nervous around others you don't know either. Be confident!" Her grandma assumes her social anxiety can be easily cured by being "confident". I mean, she guess that can work. It hasn't worked for the last 13 1/2 years, but maybe today will be her lucky day. "I will." Leslie went over to her fridge and pulled out a pudding cup. She got a spoon from the sink and ate quickly. She threw the cup in the trash and the cup in the sink before dashing out the door (Yelling a quick goodbye to her grama.) to her bus stop. In less than 15 minutes, she arrived. She was a little hot and her heart was pounding but was she breathless? NOPE! She looked at her watch. She still has 18 minutes before her bus arrives. Shay is a turtle compared to her. Is that confident? Yeah. That's
