If tasked with the development of a new colony on an uninhabited planet, I would bring Ben Carson, Les Stroud, and my best friend, Ben Roberts, with me. Each person would have a specific job, and Ben Carson’s is one of the most important. Ben Carson is one of the most brilliant men on earth. Rising up from poverty, Carson worked excruciatingly hard to turn his dreams of being a doctor into a reality. Furthermore, he accomplished the impossible when he separated Siamese twins joined at the head and did neurosurgery on an unborn child. Carson didn’t stop there, however. Carson has written numerous books describing ways to improve this great country that we live in, and he is currently running for president. His brilliance and determination allows him to accomplish anything he sets his mind to, and his political knowledge could easily form a sufficient government system. However, Carson does lack in one field: survival in the wilderness. Les Stroud, best known for his renowned television show, Survivorman, is a brilliant survivalist. His ability to process his surroundings and utilize natural resources that most people would skip over is astounding. He can build shelter out of nearly anything and can find food in the most barren of places. Stroud is known for …show more content…
He joined my Boy Scout troop when we both were 12 years old, and ever since then we have been best friends. We climbed through the ranks of Boy Scouts and both earned our Eagle Scouts. He is also one of the strongest Christians in our school, and he inspires me to be a better person. He could easily keep a nation alive while also forming the government. His brilliance, kindness, and holiness would be invaluable to any

The obstacles and challenges that life presents can strengthen the will or defeat the spirit. There are many great individuals in this world whom have crumbled under the weight of their genius but there are also a large number of great individuals whom excelled under the pressure of their success. Theodore Roosevelt was one of those individuals who rolled with life’s punches and asked for a second helping. Most of us know Theodore Roosevelt as “Teddy”, a tough native New Yorker who spoke of the West African proverb “Speak softly and carry a big stick”, but not many of us know that Theodore was plagued with severe sicknesses as a young child. Theodore faced many challenges throughout his life but continued to strive forward through the storm…

Hegel’s idea that the modern world of civil society is created through selfish ends and a system of complete interdependence is an idea that is shared with many other writers. Specifically, the 18th century writers of Steuart and Smith share Hagel’s point of view. Both Steuart and Smith believe self-interest is essential in explaining the creation of the modern world. They agree that when individuals peruse their selfish interests and in turn, become dependent in one another, and consequently create the modern economy. However, they differ in the nature of how these two principles interplay in economic activity (production and exchange).…

Working in the medical field has swayed my views to believe more in Callahan’s theories vs. Rachels and Brock due to the fact that I see firsthand how doctors are trained, schooled, and work in their daily lives. As Callahan describes in depth about the doctor's oath to care for a patients, all while giving them compassion, I believe that by allowing options such as VAE we lose the ability to control the doctor’s compassion to patients. Callahan also brought up many ideas that align with my views, such as, what gives this doctor the ability to say one patient’s life is more worthy than another? We can’t choose one patient’s life as more important than another. Every life is special and has a purpose on earth, as humans we shouldn’t have the…

The genre of horror films has evolved into an existence that would have once come across as sadistic and unoriginal to the people of the early twentieth century. Horror enthusiasts Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, and Edgar Allen Poe would cringe in their coffins at what has come to the genre they influenced, perfected, and created for the world to experience. What once used to be a never ending, bloodcurdling screaming celebration has since turned into horror flicks that now seem to be more comedic than terrifying and result in audiences often becoming disinterested. In earlier generations, actors and actresses were forced to investigate and research information that could be used to heighten their performances. Today, living actors have since…
