Legend of the leprechaun
Leprechauns are a legend that originated from Irish folklore. The first mention of leprechauns dates back to the eighth century. Leprechauns first appeared in "The Saga of Fergus mac Léti”. The tale is about king Fergus who falls asleep on a beach and water spirits called lúchorpáin come to drag the king in the ocean with them. Lúchorpáins are believed to be the first of the leprechaun tales. They believe this because lúchorpáin means “little bodies”. Before the lúchorpáin could drag the king into the ocean a cold wave from the ocean hit him and woke him up. Patrick Day parades was created in America. When a group of Irish soldiers walked into a tavern in Manhattan. In America we still continue to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on March 17 we wear the color green, decorate with shamrocks and leprechauns. St. Patrick’s Day is a huge parade here in America where we go out and drink lots of alcohol usually green beer or green colored mixed drinks. In school’s children will usually draw and color on pictures of leprechauns, pot of golds, and shamrocks. If you don’t wear the color green on March 17th people will pinch you.
Change a person’s belief Now days St. Patrick’s Day is all about getting drunk and wearing the color green. We know that leprechauns are a part of Irish mythology which the Americans drew cartoons that depicted a leprechaun to make fun of the Irish. As kids you hear stories and think of a magical little leprechaun who will lead you to that pot of gold or grant you three wishes. You also think of Lucky the leprechaun who tries to hide his Lucky Charms cereal from a bunch of children who chase him for his Lucky Charms. We know leprechauns are not real they are a tactic to sell children cereal and to make alcohol companies and bar owners
