He found out what satisfies him, and he did it for himself. Many people would be a lot more pleased with their lives if they had the same mindset as Leopard Man. We are not defined by what other people think of us. People should not socialize with people who want them to change. Your friends should accept you and love you unconditionally. Your friends are the people that should always be there for you, but you can’t expect that if they don’t accept you. People are so much more than the labels placed on them by others. Finally, people should not change for others. If changing something about yourself would genuinely make you happy, change it, but not for other people. Leopard Man In his article, “The Sociology of Leopard Man,” Logan Feys believes that people that do not conform to society are freaks. Feys supports his belief through the use of pathos. Feys purpose is to satirize people who do not conform, in order to convince the audience that non-conformist are “freaks,” Fey uses pessimism with his intended audience. It is well known that the south is one of the most conservative places in the United States, with a mainly republican population, a history of racial tension, and the intolerance shown by some of the residents. The South prides itself on believing in “traditional” values and shows little to no understanding of the changes that are happening in the world. It’s no wonder then that I, as a half Mexican-American, gay young woman have run into prejudice and discrimination based on my sexaul orientation, gender, and race. It is natural for people to explore who they are and what they want to be as they are growing up, especially throughout puberty and the years following. In doing so, many young adults change their style various times, going through differences in their taste of clothes, hobbies, and hair styles.…

Changing your feelings, looks, beliefs, and actions to fit in a group is not a great idea but neither is it a bad idea. I say this because your beliefs kind of make you who you are and you get to discover the people you like being around with, but sometimes you don’t have to just find the people you have in common with. Changing yourself for the better is good and in order to really convince yourself to change is to try hanging out with other people and observing how they act and look. Being a conformist could help you get along with most people and you can get tips about things or help from pretty much anybody. There isn’t really any danger to being a nonconformist but you can’t be promised to not have society judgements.…

When Perfection Is Not Perfect The desire for a life of perfection may not only provoke people to assume a higher position in a social hierarchy, but it may also demand people to compromise their beliefs, as well as, who they are as people. Charles de Lint says, “We’re so quick to cut away pieces of ourselves to suit a particular relationship, a job, a circle of friends, incessantly editing who we are until we fit in.” Compromising beliefs and lifestyles are not uncommon for many who think that the way to achieve perfection is by being accepted by the people at the top of a social hierarchy, or popular group of people.…

How can one possibly even have a clue of who someone is, without even getting to meet them first? There is so much more to myself than what I may look like on the outside to people. Once, others get the opportunity to talk and get to know me they will see for themselves how my journeys, family, and self identity have molded me into being the kind, independent, successful, generous person I am today. As they say, “Don't judge a book by it’s cover.…

I need to stop looking at myself as someone else would, and look as if I would more. I need to stop being someone else I’m not, and be myself and praise myself or be proud of myself for being that person. I can praise myself more, by wearing a different sweatshirt or eating what I want and how much of that I want instead of feeling ashamed to do so.
