Gustavo Gutierrez’s “The Option for the Poor Arises from Faith in Christ” emphasizes the dignity of the poor. This text relates to the CIT question, “What does it mean to live a life of meaning and purpose?” On page 117, it states, “Solidarity with the poor also sets forth a fundamental demand: the recognition of the full human dignity of the poor and their situation as daughters and sons of God. In fact, the conviction grows amidst the poor that, like all human beings, they have the right to take control of the reins of their lives.” This statement reminded me of quote that stood out to me during one of my Theology/Religious Studies lectures.
