Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the most famous actors of our time because of not only his dedication to movies and filmmaking, but also his dedication to the environment and charity. On February 28th 2016, Mr. DiCaprio finally won his first Oscar award for the best actor in “The Revenant.” This amazing actor was born in Los Angeles, California. When Leo was a little toddler when his parents decided to get a divorce. Leo grew up mainly with his mom but was still close with his father. Leo’s name came from Leonardo De Vinci. His mother named him after De Vinci because she was looking at his artwork when she felt Leo kick for the first time. Leo launched his career on commercials when he was only fourteen. After commercials, he played in a soap opera named “Santa Barbara.” Not much later he played in a sitcom for one season called “Growing Pains” as a homeless boy named Luke in the seventh season. He also played in a tv series called “Parenthood” based on the movie “Parenthood” …show more content…
His first movie was a low-budget horror movie, “Critters 3” in 1991. His more well-known movie as a young actor is “This Boy’s Life” in 1993. In that same year, he also played in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.” He was cast in this movie when he was only 19 years old. Leo played an incredibly hard role as a mentally challenged kid and played it outstandingly. Johnny Depp also casted in this movie and played his older brother. Leo received three nominations for playing Arnie Grape so well. An Academy Award nomination, Golden Globe Award nomination, and his first Oscar Award
