The Last Supper Analysis

The Last Supper was created by Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci during 1495 to 1498, which is within the Renaissance period. I was attracted by its context, so I decide to do some reasearch about it. It is regarded as one of the most famous paintings in the world. It is a mural painted on a wall of The Santa Maria Thanksgiving Church in Milan, Italy. Since it was painted on a wall, it cannot be moved, so it is still remained on the wall so far. It is in size of 4.2 meters high and 9.1 meters long. And, it is a religious painting based on a story of the Holy Bible. (Encyclopedia of art education) Below is a clear image of the painting-The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci. From this picture, we can see there are totally 13 people within this painting, which are Jesus and his 12 disciples. The background is in a big empty room, the darkness background compares with colorful clothes created a strong visual impact on viewers. At the bottom of the painting, there is a long table full of many kinds of food. People are sitting beside the table in a row for dinner. However, their faces do not look like they are enjoying the feast. At dinner, Jesus tells everyone that there is a traitor. (Encyclopedia of art education) Leonardo da Vinci captures this moment and draws this painting.
