The Last Supper, by Leonardo is an oil and tempera on plaster. It depicts Jesus and his twelve disciples sitting at a table. At this moment when Jesus announces that one of his disciples will betray him. The way the disciples are grouped shows Leonardo’s mathematical skills. The tapestries and wooden structures show linear perspective; this gives the painting great depth and dimension, with only one vanishing point.…

But of the original surface- of its color and atmosphere, its breath of sfumato, its precision of nuance in still life and faces- almost nothing is left.” . Hope also argues that “Since the original surface of Leonardo’s masterpiece is gone, while only patches of the lower layers have been preserved, to all intents and purposes the Last Supper no longer exists and has not existed for centuries” . It was also uncommon to see a portrait of a half body and someone showing their hands, Leonardo da Vinci also change that for the future generations. At a time when a married woman could not be in front of a man who was not her husband because it was considered improper. He did not care that a woman poses for him as long as he was painting it.…

Again, I admire the attention to detail that Michelangelo pays to his work, but with this painting I appreciate the deeper meaning and symbolic treasures he planted beneath his paint brush. The authors are quick to point out that not only does Michelangelo’s painting reflect the religiously-tense days he lived in, but also his own spiritual revelations (430). Michelangelo includes many individuals from the bible, but also figures from Greek mythology. Including people that are not from the bible into such a religious painting demonstrate the early days of the Protestant Reformation.…

I never really been a person that is into paintings a lot but I can say that the painting from Leonardo Da Vinci of the Last Supper is the most beautiful piece that has even been done. This painting is a reminder to me that in today's society that man is the same as those disciples that betrayed Jesus.…
