This painting can be viewed in Santa Maria Delle Grazie, Milan, Italy on a wall of the refectory in the Dominican monastery. During this time Christianity was very respected and common throughout the world. Hence, why this painting was highly viewed and sought by many across the world. The painting style was done in fresco but not true fresco due to the fact, it wasn’t completed on wet plaster. Da Vinci was asked to do this painting by Sforza and thought to be a great work for a dining hall. It has been said in the paintings of “The Last Supper” that “Throughout all the ages in which the Last Supper has preoccupied Christian artists, one of two dramatic moments has been chosen as the subject: either Christ’s institution of Holy Communion, or his statement that one of the disciples would betray him.” (The World of Leonardo 1452-1519, page 94 Robert …show more content…
In his sketches for the Adoration of the Magi there appears a group of servants in animated discussion at a table, and nearby is a figure of Christ” (The World of Leonardo 1452-1519, page 80, Robert Wallace). Leonardo devoted large amounts of time to insure that the painting was done to have an emotional and spiritual connection. Which can be viewed in the image below, his highly respected works “The Last Supper”. The last Supper is very symbolic to the Christian faith throughout the world. Jesus gathers with some of his closest followers to have their last communion together. He is preparing to what is to come and to inform them that one of them at the table will betray him as well. The men seem to be in disbelief to what is to come and wondering who is the one that will Christ to his crucifixion. Jesus and the men are sitting at a large table however it’s not enough room for all the men to seat
