Before I start, I am going to tell you a little bit about the artist I have chosen to present on. Leonardo Da Vinci (1452-1519) was an Italian artist as well as a scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, architect, botanist, musician, and writer. Leonardo Da Vinci is considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and, to some people, the most variously talented person to have lived. His most famous paintings, Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, are still admired today on display. Mona Lisa/La Gioconda (painted between 1503 and 1506) has been fascinating art lovers and admirers all over the world due to the fact that the identity of the woman the portrait is of unknown and because of her cryptic facial expression. This artwork seems to have a very positive mood when viewed, but further studies on Benois Madonna has shown that there is also a form of sadness and grief that is hidden within the artwork in the appearance of a flower of the Cruciferae family portraying a cross. Perhaps Da Vinci hid it to create an original artwork or to portray a mixed message. There is some speculation about if this is actually one of Leonardo Da Vinci’s works or if he had help or if it was actually painted by someone else. Scholars believe that this painting was painted by Da Vinci because of the similarity of style in the Benois Madonna and other Leonardo Da Vinci works. The reason for confusion pertaining to the actual artist is the style La Belle Ferronniere portrays is not similar to Da Vinci’s style that is shown in his other paintings. The posture of the woman is stiff and the woman’s features are dark and heavy. The painting was given the name La Belle Ferronniere because of the jewel, called a ferronniere, that the model is wearing on her head. Many people have copied La Belle Ferronniere but none have captured the same style or the same features and structure of the face. La Belle Ferronniere is on display in the Louvre Museum in Paris.This painting fits my theme because La Belle Ferronniere is a very cryptic
