Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452, in a farm like house in the hills of Tuscany which is outside the village of Anchiano in Italy. Leonardo was the love child of Ser Piero and Caterina. He was raised by his father and his stepmothers. His father believed in multiple marriages. Due to the fact that fresco cannot be altered while the artist is working, Leonardo chose to cap the stone wall with a double layer of dry plaster. Then, deriving from a panel painting, he added an undercoat of white lead to boost the brightness of the oil and tempera that was applied on the top. This method of painting had been shown through the artwork mastered by Cennini in the 14th century. These techniques were valuable to Leonardo da Vinci because he had a desire to work slowly on the painting. He wanted more than enough time to develop the ongoing shading or chiaroscuro that was required in his style. Da Vinci’s decision to paint with tempera and oil on dried plaster instead of painting a fresco on fresh plaster caused the painting to swiftly deteriorate and flake. Even though, the improper restoration of The Last Supper caused more damage to the piece, it’s being alleviated using up to date conservation
