Da Vinci had a strong desire for knowledge which is the reason behind his thinking and behavior. There are many mysteries surrounding this famous painting. The subject in the painting is not certain as well as the exact dates da Vinci began creating the painting. However, the woman who seems as though she can step out of the painting at any moment is the wife of a Florentine cloth merchant named Francesco del Giocondo. This is the reason behind the alternative title Portrait of Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo, more commonly known as La Giaconda. Many scholars are still uncertain about the identity of the subject, but da Vinci began painting the image around the time many significant events were taking place in her family’s history. She and her husband had just lost their daughter in the year 1499. In December of 1502, they had another child, a son, and in 1503 they had bought a new home.
