Biography: Leonardo Da Vinci is simply known as genius. Possibly the greatest mind of all time was centuries ahead of the pack. Born 1452-1519, Da Vinci was a painter, architect, inventor, and a student of all things scientific. Widely known for being the artist of arguably the two most famous paintings EVER, the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. All of his artworks are believed to have a strong connected with science and nature. Da Vinci is self educated, allowing him to express his own creativity, imagination and intellect without the influence of external motives. Da Vinci contributed to the world immensely, especially through his inventions and discoveries. This work is religious because it depicts Saint Anne watching over her daughter, he virgin mother Mary, and Mary watching over baby Jesus. Mary is sitting on the lap of her mother, as she is trying to restrain baby Jesus who is holding onto a sacrificial sheep. The painting expresses the ideas of love, passion, connection and strength. The Virgin and the child shows connections to the future of Jesus by his visible concern for the sheep, as does Mary for Jesus.
