“The Renaissance is one of the most interesting and disputed periods of European history. Many scholars see it as a unique time with characteristics all its own” (Grendler 177). During this time, sculptors and painters were very well known causing the upcoming generation to become apprentices to those who excelled at sculpting and painting. Leonardo de Vinci was introduced to sculpting by Andrea del Verrocchio which led him to make many sculptures of his own. This led him to invent many machines and designs that gave him a name for being ahead of his time. He perfected the Anemometer which was so used to measure the force of the wind. “Historians stipulate that it was Leonardo da Vinci’s fascination with flight that inspired him to innovate the anemometer. His hope was that, eventually, the device could be used to give people insight into the direction of the wind before attempting flight” (Davinci Inventions). Even though he didn’t originally invent the anemometer, he made changes that allowed the device measure wind force
