There are many different ethical theories throughout society, each one more suited to certain types of situations than the others but there are ethical theories that apply to more situations than others. One example is utilitarianism. The main goal is to have the majority of people in a group to benefit from the outcome. This is an ethical theory that is effective in politics but when it comes to situations with family or friends it can be hurtful. Proportionalism is an ethical theory better suited to matters close to home. An ethical theory that is used in criminal and professional matters is situation ethics. In a court case a judge will decide if a certain action was right or wrong depending on the situation the person was in, rather than just judging the action by itself.
