First, George plays a major role in the story for having an amount of power. First of all, George has a large amount of power over Lennie. George says, “You never had none, you crazy bastard. I got both of em here. Think I’d let you carry your own work card” (5). Lennie

Slim is the Ranch Manager. First, in the story the author states, “His authority was so great that his word was taken on any subject, be it politics or love”(33). Slim is basically one of the leaders. Secondly, by Slim being the ranch manager, he has power to do a lot. The boss says, “ Go out with Slim’s team” (28). By Slim having his own team, the leader knows he has power. Lastly, Slim had a little power over Curley. Slim said to Curley “ You got your senses in hand enough to listen?” “Well then listen!” “ I don’t think your hand got cut off in a machine. “If you don’t tell nobody what happened, we ain’t going to. “ But if you tell and try and get this guy canned and we’ll tell ever’body, an’ then will you get the laugh.” Slim was blackmailing Curley to tell what really happened to his hand if he tries to have Lennie and George fired. In conclusion, Slim had the second most power on the ranch. He had power over everyone. Also he really had power over Curley because he knows the real reason why Curley lost his hand. Finally, there’s someone on the ranch who has the most power out of all three , and that’s the boss. First in the story , the boss assigns Lennie and George their job. The Boss says, “Go out and be on Slim’s team.”(23). This shows the boss most likely was the person who assigned all jobs. Secondly, The Boss is demanding and has the right to yell at others and also be upset. For example, the boss says to

Synthesis essay “Doodle was just about the craziest brother a boy ever had.” In both The book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and the short story “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst, the main character feels shameful about the other main character. In Of Mice and Men George is afraid that what Lennie will do will get them in trouble and in “The Scarlett Ibis” the Brother is embarrassed to have a disabled brother. The way Doodle’s brother treats Doodle in The Scarlet Ibis is alike to the way that George treats Lennie in Of Mice and Men because some of their actions come out of a place of shame and fear, and the shame and fear that they felt ultimately caused Doodle and Lennie’s deaths.…

Unfulfilled American Dream “We may come from different places and have different stories, but we share common hopes, and one very American dream,” Barack Obama once stated. George, Lennie, Candy, and Crooks all have different backgrounds and past experiences, but share the same dream to buy a farmhouse with the money they earn.
