In the story, Steinbeck uses foreshadowing to indicate some key events that led to the death of the farm dream. When Curley’s wife comes into the barn, it shows something bad is going to happen because whenever she comes around something bad happens. “She jerked her head sideways, and Lennie’s fingers closed on her hair and hung on”(page 91). “I done another bad thing. Curley’s wife comes in on Lennie petting the dog he had killed. “What you got there, sonny boy” (page 86). This is giving us clues that they might talk about soft things. When she finds out the dog is dead, they go into a conversation that leads to one of the main events in the story. “Feel right aroun’ there an’ see how soft it is” (page 90).
