f Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a tearjerker of a novel. Steinbeck makes us fall in love with the dynamic duo, George and Lennie, only to break our hearts at the end when George has to kill Lennie. There are lots of pro’s and con’s of George’s decision, and everyone has their own opinion of what George should have done. There is no doubt that as George was searching for Lennie at the end of the novel, a million pro’s and con’s were running around in his head as he was trying to make the decision on whether or not to kill his best friend. Lennie was picturing all of the wonderful rabbits that he was going to get to love and pet when he died, and I can’t think of a better way for him to go than that. If Curley had got ahold of him and done the job himself, I can guarantee that rabbits would not be the last thing on his

I could live so easy and maybe have a girl” (Steinbeck 7). After hearing this statement it makes the reader second-guess the true feeling George has for Lennie. Though Lennie has a disability, and George respects that he’s trying, but Lennie’s mental handicap holds George back from getting a job because Lennie always finds a way to mess something and they have to leave a town or area so they don’t get caught. George is also seen throughout the novel as a man who leaves behind his friend.…
