Domestic and gender based violence has been part of PNG culture and has been treated as a norm in the society especially in the rural areas where women do not have voices. Through the use of social media The Leniata Legacy provides an avenue for women empowerment and victims of domestic violence to come out to express their concern and fight for their rights to be equally in the society. The Facebook page Leniata is derived from a PNG women who was suspected of witchcraft and was tortured, brutalised and burnt alive in broad daylight.
