The agency does not discriminate based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, or social class. The childrens unit deals with anyone under 18, and the MI unit deals with anyone above 18. Within the MI unit, there is also the geriatrics specialists who takes on cases of the elderly and those placed in assisted living or nursing homes. LCMHA is divided in this way to be able to provide the best type of care towards the client. The heavy stigma that is placed against mental health causes a load of discrimination and oppression onto the clients. Several of the client in the MI unit tend to not admit to having a mental diagnosis. This can be in suspect of the stigma and being seen as vulnerable. More so, the vulnerability of this population tends to be increasingly high. The costs for medications, case management, and various other forms of treatment tend to be on the expensive side.
