“We have a metal building with a gas furnace located above a lay-in ceiling. The local AHJ is telling us that we are required to have sprinklers above the ceiling since there is a gas furnace above the ceiling. Are sprinklers required?” In response to your question we have reviewed NFPA 13, 2010 edition that you indicated as the applicable standard. Our informal interpretation is that sprinklers are not required.…
The first effect is about the many different ways the Jews were killed in the death camps. Some, mostly twins, died from being experimented on by Dr. Mengele. He was also known as the “Angel of Death” from all the patients he killed while experimenting on. The camps spread disease, which would also kill prisoners. Some lacked food and starved to death.…
This memoir takes place during the Holocaust, an era in time in which European Jews were killed and forced to work in labour camps. Families were separated; people were starved, beaten to death, and many far worse forms of punishment. In this memoir, numerous laws in the Universal…
Thus, concentration and labor camps were built to work the Jews to their death; many died of starvation, through the gas chambers, by the bullets of SS soldiers, and other horrific methods. “Irene was a teenager when the Nazi attack on Poland changed her life forever. She was separated from her family, escaped twice from incarceration, and captured and raped by Soviet soldiers. Her most difficult predicament was also her noblest: she saved the lives of 16 Polish Jews, hiding some of them literally beneath the noses of the German officers” (http://www.holocaustforgotten.com/Opdyke.htm). Irene Opdyke was born on May 15, 1918, in Kozienice, Poland.…
Night Essay In a town called Sighet, Transylvania, many Jews were killed for what they believed in. This was called the Holocaust. During the Holocaust, people were being transported from their homes to much smaller areas called the ghettos. Without them knowing, Jews were taken to a concentration camp, where they were forced to work.…
It is a well-known fact that the Jewish Holocaust was a time of death and despair. Lasting throughout the 1940’s, countless innocent Jews were deported into ghettos, labor camps, and even death camps where mass exterminations would then occur. Indeed, the camp system was, without a doubt, cruel and unforgivable. However, two particular camps of that time period, known as Westerbork and Bergen-Belsen, would not only be connected by railroads, but as well as a young girl named Anne Frank.…

October 19, 1903 an advocate for the Jews was born, Laura Margolis, it wouldn’t be until the 1930’s when she started working with different Jewish organizations that she would get to prove just how big an advocate she was. Coming to the United States in 1908 to Cleveland, Ohio where she lived and went to School, she got her bachelors of science in 1926 and a professional degree in social work the following year. Throughout the 1900’s, Russian and German Jews immigrated to the United States in massive droves. Between 1881 and 1914, over three million Russian Jews immigrated to the United States. They formed their own communities and neighborhoods, especially in cities such as New York, where the Lower East Side was composed almost entirely of Jewish immigrants. The Russian Jews immigrated to the United States for a plethora of reasons, most of which related to the prejudices and bigotry that they had faced in their home countries, and once they were here, they faced new challenges both in the workplace and in education. Russian and German Jews immigrated to the United States in large numbers for the duration of the 1910’s and 1920’s.…
Throughout this class, and other history classes I have taken, there has always been little to no mention of women and the specific roles they have played in the Holocaust compared to the plethora of information about men. For this paper, I am going to compare three different stories about the experiences of women during the Third Reich and the Holocaust. Each woman comes from a different background faced varying degrees of misfortune and terror throughout their lives in Nazi Germany. The first woman, Ilse Landau, was a Jew who went into hiding during the war. Second is Marta Hessler, who was neither a Jew or a Nazi, just an ordinary German citizen who knew little about the mass murder.…
One might say I’ve experienced my share of fright, heartache, and disappointment in life. Born in 1940 in Berlin, Germany to a very strict Jewish family, it seemed as though my life was destined to be like any other European Jew at that time: deathly persecution by the ever-present population of anti-semites in Europe. Shortly after the Adolf Hitler rose to power in 1933, my parents, older sister, and I fled to live with my great aunt in Barcelona, Spain. Looking back on that event, I consider myself greatly blessed to have fled from the evil and persecution of the Nazis, for many Jews didn’t have that privilege. Even at a young age while living in Spain, I often felt feelings of guilt, for many of my fellow Jews were being killed by the thousands each day.…
On the 30 of January in 1933, the shocking Holocaust starts. The unimaginable vindictiveness was unleashed on the Jews by Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party. German troopers rash the pure homes of Jews, compelling them to bow underneath. The Jews carrying on with an ordinary typical life were now presently a target for an inhuman evil man, Adolf Hitler. We read and learn about the terrifying demonstrations in the concentration camps by unique and individual stories from the surviving Jews.…
Minorities are often blamed for the vast array of problems any society faces. In today’s America we can see it in the cries of “they are taking our jobs” or “they are overwhelming our social services.” When citizens of a country feel insecure, they search for a reason, and finding no easy answer, they look to a scapegoat.…
