What is a hero? Most people think that a hero is somebody that saves somebody else. Actually, a hero is someone that helps people do small things. A hero is someone who steps in and helps one another out. Somebody could be a hero by holding the door for somebody or help clean up a mess someone dropped. Serena is a hero not only because she has won many titles or is the number one female tennis player in the world. She is a hero because she never gives up when someone puts her down. She has many characteristics why she is a hero such as: athleticism, determination, and always being accomplished. When Serena was in Indian Wells for a tennis match, all of the people were be racist toe her and being sexist to her. She was afraid that somebody would hurt her. Serena Williams said,” I am lucky that whatever fear I have inside me, my desire to win always stronger.”(1). All of the remarks that the people made at her made her family very sad and also a little mad. It hurt her father the most. A few months before the Indian Wells match, Serena was at a match when Russian official Shamil Tarpischev made racist and sexist remarks about herself and her sister Venus. The WTA and USTA immediately condemned him. It reminded her about how far the sport has come and how far she has come too. She spent hours crying in the locker room after the Indian Wells tournament because she didn’t know what she had done to deserve what had happened at Indian Wells. By the way, she won her first pro match at Indian Wells. She says that she is going to return back to Indian Wells in two-thousand fifteen and hopes that the people at Indian Wells have grown on the game and have grown to know her better than they did in two-thousand one. A lot of people think that if you don’t have a foundation or something that you are not a hero. You don’t have to have a foundation to be considered to be a hero. The foundation is called The Serena Williams Foundation. The foundation was established to achieve two goals, one was to provide assistance to youth whose parents and families have been affected by violent crimes. The second goal was to assist underprivileged youth around the world in receiving the highest quality education available to them by providing grants and scholarships to deserving high school students. The Serena Williams Foundation joined with the Caliber Foundation to end illegal gun violence in America. The Serena Williams Foundation thought it would be a good thing to join with the Caliber Foundation to do more good things for America and the world.
