I feel that Lemonade’s purpose is to empower, to demonstrate the resilience of women of color, and to wage a war against inequality. That message is what inspires me to learn how to raise a sword against injustice, fighting against the adversity that I have faced as a Mexican-American woman, through music and composition. The most inspiring message, for me, that came from her Lemonade album was from “Formation.” This song solidified my belief that women can do incredible things, but must, first, stand together- “get in formation.” Rise from adversity. Break boundaries. Additionally, Lemonade inspires me to keep breaking boundaries in the classroom. I want to gain a new perspective on the world through my studies, while, also, inspiring my peers, as well. That’s exactly what I want to do. This scholarship will help me to do so, and will help me break boundaries by being the first in my immediate family to earn a Bachelor’s degree, my ultimate educational goal. I am unafraid to not only think, but act outside the box to create a positive impact on communities, and that is why I believe I am the best candidate for this scholarship. With it, I can achieve my dreams and launch the dreams of others. Thank you for your

In reference to the mythical world of Percy Jackson, Rick Riordan flawlessly describes family dynamic. “Families are messy. Immortal families are eternally messy. I have always dreamed to be the next influential American for my generation. During my childhood I've always looked up to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Maya Angelou, and Misty Copeland; all African Americans who influenced me to be the person I am today. Martin Luther King taught me that change is possible and if I fight for what’s right an impact will be made. Maya Angelou taught me that you can express yourself without being flamboyant, but through metaphors, empowerment and irony. Misty Copeland made me realize that I can be an African American girl who dances, and I can make it out of my county doing what I love.…

Recognize what's going on, take a stand for yourself, and make the changes to better your world.' I believe that only through conscious effort and armed with knowledge can we make changes to how society thinks, a generation at a time. I wish more young women in the current generation could hear this song like I did, at the height of my becoming a knowledgeable young adult. I think it could help women in other countries, who are just now starting to shed the manacles of their societies and saying they are just as capable as men are. It should be one of the anthems of strong, young women like Malala Yousafzai as she fights for the rights of Muslim girls to go to school; or the young 11-year old Yemeni girl that ran away to escape an arranged marriage.…
