The reason why this is effective is because of the experiences and relationship between Lemon Brown and his son. We the audience learn of him and his son and their bong when Lemon Brown says,”I used to travel around and make money for to feed my wife and Jesse… his mama died.. He went to go fight in the war...Jesse got killed in the war.. They returned the papers and him carrying them told me they meant something to him.”(239). This anecdote from Lemon Brown gives us very deep insight in their relationship despite Lemon being a traveling musician and his son, Jesse, being a soldier. This really speaks to him because Greg is always in the reach of his father and is always being cared for by his father, something that Lemon wasn’t able to do,
