Legislative Meeting Summary

The legislative meeting that I watch online was the City Council Public Safety & Livable Neighborhoods meeting on November 12, 2015, the length of the meeting was two hours and 49 minutes .The official involved were council-member officials from the San Diego City Council, Police officials and the public. Marti Emerald is member of the San Diego City Council and President Pro Team from District 9, her main role in the meeting was to direct the meeting. Second official was Todd Gloria a member of the San Diego Council from the 3rd district, Mr. Gloria has the mayor of San Diego from August 2013 though March 2014. His main role was to discuss the items of the agenda. Third council member is Chris Cate who is vice chair and Council member Myrtle …show more content…
The agenda items that I observed were, non-agenda public comment and item one which was a report from the San Diego Police Department regarding the organization Family Justice Center .The meeting began by Council President Marti Emerald going over the agenda and making some last changes, after she introduced several members of the public who wanted to address the committee on the issue of racial profiling research. According to the public, San Diego State University has not yet published their findings regarding their research. Their were a total of ten members of public, each had one minute to express their option on why this research should be made public. Each member of the council agreed with the public regarding San Diego State to published their data as soon as they are done. On several occasions Marti had to get the public and members attention by informing them that the University was going to realized the reports as soon as they are done . Domestic violence is other topic that was discuss during the council meeting, the organization San Diego Family Justice Center located in downtown San Diego is one of many organization that advocates for people that have been victims of domestic violence. The San Diego Family Jutice Center is a safe place where victims of domestic place are able to obtain counseling, job training and other resources in order to continue their journey. This organization provides assistance to victims of all type of domestic violence and does not discriminates against religion, sex and ethnicity. The spokesman for the organization presented the council members with statistics and video about their improvements and the number of cases that they have review over the past year. At the end of the presentation , their were several council members asking questions to the represented.
