Activities: Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA): I have been a member of FBLA for the past three years. This year, at the Regional Conference, I placed second in my event, Insurance and Risk Management. This is allowing me to attend the State Conference in Ontario, CA this April. FBLA is a club that works to educate the youth on how business and aspects of businesses, like technology, operate. Black Student Union (BSU):…
As a high school student, I volunteered at the Orland Park Public Library as well as Palos Heights Community Hospital. I was a computer volunteer assistant who would help patrons with print jobs, taking printing money, and help those who had trouble using the Internet. I also helped senior citizens with their cell phones. The librarian would book an appointment and I would be ready to teach the elderly how to use their phone effectively and properly as well as what apps they should download. At eh hospital, I am a sterile supply worker and a courier.…
This summer, I worked as a JCIT at the BSAFE summer program. BSAFE is a summer program for kids from kindergarten to 5th grade, where they are taught school subjects and go on a field trip every day. A JCIT is a junior counselor-in-training, so my job was to assist the leader with the kids and clean and prepare activities for them. JCITs are closer in age to the kids, so they usually confided in us with their questions and concerns. Being a JCIT helped me gain a lot of patience and allowed me to learn to help with things even when I'm not directly asked to do so.…
I helped my teacher grade math worksheets and clean. Furthermore, I completed approximately one hundred hours of mentoring preschoolers and I also helped with Vacation Bible School over the…
Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…
I used to be a member of the National Honor Society in J.W. Sexton High School. We met twice a month to discuss about volunteering opportunities such as volunteering in the 40/8 veterans organization, which I helped out from time to time. In the 40/8 veterans organization, the people who work there make food for veterans to eat. I help out by washing the dishes. I also help out my church by assisting and participating in holiday plays, arranging food to be served every other Sunday, and maintaining a clean environment for the church.…
I attended numerous ISPT meetings throughout Fayette, Greene, and Alleghany counties. ISPT stand for Interagency Service Planning Team. These meetings were always an hour long and occur every 120 days. The people that attend these meetings include a member of the insurance company, the Treatment Coordinator, the Treatment parent(s), the biological or adoptive parent(s), the child, anyone else who is involved in the treatment of the child and sometimes the supervisor of the Treatment Coordinator. During these meetings, the Treatment Coordinator would talk about the child’s Plan of Care, whether or not the child has been doing well in the treatment home and at school, and the parents would discuss any of their concerns.…
After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…
Three years into my high school I hadn't gotten into the state of mind that most over achievers have. I had floated through high school thinking I was trying my very hardest to get good grades and become a consistently studious candidate of my school. However, no matter how hard I tried I failed I gave into all the distractions and used all my obstacles as excuses became frustrated and developed an attitude problem that I had created myself. Being a consistent 2.5 student wasn't satisfying or inspiring. Uniquely enough, I had decided to take challenging courses my junior year.…
A Lesson Learned My senior year was a complete disaster. I never took anything serious, and I always waited till the last minute to do everything. All throughout my senior year teachers told me I needed to push myself to achieve a higher grade although my stubborn self never listened. I can remember I always was a student who fell under the c to a d range in my grades with homework and tests, and my teachers always told me I could do better.…
Before even entering high school, I made a decision that would ruin the next few years. Looking back, I had no idea it would have impacted me as much as it did, but even now I still wouldn’t have changed that decision. Everything that came after that decision, no matter how difficult, shaped me into who I am today, and I was able to meet some pretty amazing people and do a few things only a handful of people can say they’ve done. In elementary school, I was in the S.C.O.P.E. (Spotsylvania County Program of Enrichment) program, my county’s way of separating out students who they considered gifted and a distraction in the classroom.…
What I have learned in class throughout the whole semester was more and more on how to write an essay well but also how I can take information about each article and top, I also learned on how well and what was to take notes and be able to understand what I am writing about and be able to create my own opinion. Serving in a restaurant, or any type of food chain isn’t easy. Some people know what it’s like, many others don’t. I want to explain to you the ways to becoming a good ‘sever’, in other words, so you know what it’s like. This will also be helpful to anyone who wants to know how to become a good server. If you are a one yourself, you know the in’s and out’s of it all.…
I was a cancer patient before a year. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgical treatment were done on me to help me get rid of that fatal disease. After six months, I finally discarded cancer tissues from my body but I was yet to come out of the wasting syndrome. Apart from that, I had lost my scalp hair, eyebrows and eyelashes too owing to the strong chemotherapy. My oncologist prescribed me lots of medicines to regain the lost charm.…
