In Dick Lowry’s movie Attila, a legend told of a king that would rise among the Huns and ruler the world with the sword of the war god. Attila assumes the role of this king and with the assistance of the visions from the witch Gaylon begins to fulfill this prophecy. Attila begins a newly orphaned after an attack on his father’s camp who is rescued weeks later by his uncle King Rua and goes to live with his tribe and his brother Bleda. General Flavius Aetius is freed from prison and sent to the Hun camp to join forces with Roman Empire against the Visigoths. After the battle, Attila returns to Rome with Flavius Aetius and becomes fascinated with all the splendors and riches available in Roman. His visit ends with the news of King Rua’s death in which Bleda poisoned King Rua to gain the throne for himself while Attila was away. Attila’s first wife, N’Kara, dies in childbirth and Attila blames Gaylon for not foretelling him of her death before Gaylon passed any herself. During his emotional rage at Gaylon’s gave the war god sword appears in front of him. All of the Hun tribes quickly bow to Attila’s rule and unite. Attila begins his seize to conquer the Roman Empire and then the world. Flavius is forced to ally with King Theodoric I after the Huns destroyed Orleans. The Visigoths and the Romans win the Battle of the Catuanian Fields forcing the Huns to retreat with Attila’s divine sword shattering foreshadowing the soon downfall of Attila. Attila marries Ildico, an undercover Roman servant. Attila dies by her hand on their wedding night due to poison.
While the Hollywood version of Attila was entertaining, there is quite a bit more fiction than there is fact. Attila’s physical appearance in real life is a complete 180 compared to his movie
