Legally Blonde: My Sorority Life

Improved Essays
Ever since I watched the movie Legally Blonde, it has been my dream (and probably most college girls) to join a sorority and have sisters like Elle Woods did.
During the summer right before entering my freshman year at University of West Florida, I decided to research more on what sorority life is actually about. When doing my research, I found out my school had five Panhellenic sororities all of whom had different values and to join you have to get selected by going through a recruitment process that is a week long. I then started to research more about the chapters, making me fall in love instantly. Girls in sororities at UWF saw my Twitter page and noticed I was an incoming freshmen interested in going through fall recruitment. I had sisters

I found out later on that this happened to many other girls, proving to me that I wasn’t alone.
Even though it was still hard to see my friends post on social media the next day pictures of them as they ran to their new sisterhood homes, I wasn’t going to let that get in my way.
I decided to get involved in other ways. People who first go to college don’t realize that the university they are attending have so much more to offer than just Greek life. I made sure that I was not going to be one of those people.
I instantly got encouraged by a close friend of mine to apply to the Student Government Association. That opened up so many connections for me, helping me find even more ways to get involved. Through SGA, I found out how to become a volunteer for the Campus Activity Board. Joining that ending up changing my life forever. I met so many friends and found a new passion for marketing and public relations through this organization. I also managed to join Catholic Argos, a catholic church group at my school, which gave me a chance to explore my religion with my peers. I started meeting people from all different organizations, which included people in Greek life and developed relationships all across

Yes, it will hurt really bad at first, but I promise that there is so much more you can get involved in. Don’t set limits for yourself, just simply move on and reach for new goals. You didn’t do anything wrong and you are good enough so don't tell yourself differently.
There are some amazing girls in each sorority and it is an honor to share friendships with them. You don’t have to be in a sisterhood to find friendships and you don’t need Greek life to enjoy your college experience.
If it turns out, you gave it a shot but you didn't find your passion in something else and you still feel think sorority life is the only thing for you; give it another try. I think Greek life is fantastic and each of the chapters hold great values. My views on Greek life has not changed and maybe in the future I will try it again.
So go through recruitment, fall in love with your bubbly and beautiful Beta Chi’s, get to know the girls surrounding you, make connections with the different sisters you meet, feel confident, and if it ends up you don’t get a bid, believe me when I say: it will be

“It’s not what it looks like”, this is what the majority of members of a sorority or fraternity would respond after being asked about Greek life. Why is that they feel like they have to say that? One word: Marketing. The way sororities and fraternities are portrayed to the public gives off a bad image and reputation about the members and their community. Any person who has not been part of Greek life and does not have any information about this community and its activities they would think sororities and fraternities are just a big house full of college people just having fun, drinking, and sleeping around.…

or any sorority for that matter, except for what I hear on my college campus, which are basically stigmas (good and bad) that are tied to each sorority. After months and months of my ears being flooded with “Zeta this, Gamma Rho that, AKA this, and Delta that,” and my friends telling me that I should pledge Delta because I’m very blunt and have an attitude, I literally thought the whole sorority (sisterhood) and fraternity (brotherhood) thing was stupid and childish. I told myself that I would never be apart of any sisterhood and I would be my own support, and my own organization. However, after continued pestering from my friends about how I should become a Delta because of my fitted Delta personality, I decided to do some research. The one thing that sold me on wanting to become a…

Elimination of the Greeks The idea of joining a fraternity or sorority is very appealing to many incoming college students. However, most students do not know that the Greek life is not all it is cracked up to be. Many students spend a lot of time and money on getting accepted into these Greek organizations.
