In his speech he mentions that, “Business owners who offer their workers good wages and benefits see the competition exploit undocumented immigrants by paying them far less” (Obama 3). Furthermore, he adds that, “And undocumented immigrants who desperately want to embrace those responsibilities see little option but to remain in the shadows, or risk their families being torn apart” (Obama 3). By making these statements, President Obama is telling us that the business owners rip off the poor undocumented immigrants, and some immigrants tend to stay in the shadows, and some risks their families to be torn apart in order to take the responsibilities. So to help the undocumented immigrants and fix the broken immigration system President Obama uses his authority as President of United States. President Obama offers the undocumented immigrants to get out of the shadow by meeting the requirements which are as follows; should be in America for at least 5 years, should have born US citizen child, should pass the criminal and background checks, pay the fines for violating the immigration law, and start paying the taxes (Obama 4). They have a fear of losing or not getting the jobs. The Federation for American Immigration Reform’s (FAIR) article “Illegal Aliens Taking US Jobs” supports their argument by mentioning the statistics. FAIR argues that about 8.5 million jobs are taken by illegal immigrants and the number keeps increasing, and those illegal immigrants will be responsible for taking the jobs away from the US citizen workers (FAIR). They also add that the illegal immigrants will be responsible to crash and ruin the US economy (FAIR). The people who are arguing about legalizing those poor undocumented immigrants doesn’t know that the fruits and vegetables that they eat are also harvested, and washed by those illegal immigrants. It is also mentioned in the article “US Farmers Depend on Illegal Immigrants” by Steve Baragona. From the topic of the article itself anyone can know that; most of the American farmer also relies on those illegal immigrants, because American won’t do those jobs (Baragona). If the Americans don’t want to get involved in this kind of jobs, then how they can say that illegal immigrants are taking their jobs away? So if we legalize those illegal immigrants they will be able to pay the taxes which will be beneficial for the US economy, and will also help the immigrants to get paid more. If those immigrant are paid more they will spend more which is a common sense
