Human trafficking is all around us, even in our lovely state of North Carolina. Just in case you were wondering human trafficking is nothing like the movie “Taken”. Human trafficking is real and very dangerous. Many are wondering what is being done to try and stop it. The (NHTRC) works closely with service providers, law enforcement, and other professionals in North Carolina to serve victims and survivors of trafficking, respond to human trafficking cases, and share information and resources. Let’s go deeper and find some specific ways they are “helping” stop human trafficking. North Carolina has done one thing specifically important to limit human trafficking. Oxford dictionary says, “It is the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment.” Yes, to some that might sound the same as Sex Trafficking well it’s not. The people taken for trafficking does not get paid they are made to do things. According to (Human trafficking Unc) they think that if they legalize prostitution it would stop human trafficking. I disagree, I defiantly do not think legalizing prostitution would stop it. I think it would make the trafficking go up because they wouldn’t have to pay to have sex they could just steal a prostitute and have sex for free. jurisdictions with legal prostitution also have high rates of trafficking. According to (journalistssource.org) Countries with legalized prostitution is associated with higher human trafficking flows than countries where prostitution is prohibited. The scale effect of legalizing prostitution, i.e. expansion of the market. Outweighs the substitution effect, where legal sex workers are favored over illegal workers.
