Legalizing Medical Marijuana
Many say that medical marijuana is a negative substance, but medical marijuana has been proven to be very beneficial in the medical field. It helps with pain, healing, and tends to have better outcomes better than other treatments. Take three year old Landon Riddle as an example; he is a focus of medical marijuana. Landon has acute lymphocytic leukemia, or ALL, a cancer affecting the blood and bone marrow. It's the most common cancer in children. Landon’s mother says, "I think that the chemo in combination with the cannabis did put him into remission and now the cannabis will keep him there” (Cable News Network, 2014). The definition of medical marijuana is, marijuana that is recommended by a doctor in the treatment of a medical condition. In Landon’s case, medical marijuana was given in combination with chemo to help put him into remission.
Now, one needs to look at the history of legalizing medical marijuana. The Leading Source for Pros and Cons of Controversial Issues states, that in 1970, the US Congress placed marijuana in Schedule one of the Controlled Substances Act because they considered it to have "no accepted medical use." The state law passed by voters in 1996 allows the use of medical marijuana with a doctor’s recommendation; however, only twenty-eight out of fifty US states have legalized medical marijuana.

Both Landon and Debbie are examples of the healing benefits of medical marijuana. Landon’s healing came by his cancer staying in remission. Debbie’s healing came in many such as: the absence of seizures, stabilized blood glucose levels, and stabilized serotonin levels. This allowed her to be relieved of all medications other than medical marijuana. Debbie’s case of trauma-induced epilepsy was too large for any amount of surgery and she was unresponsive to all medications. This shows that medical marijuana has the ability to heal in a variety of circumstances; whereas, these conditions may not be as responsive to the typical medications.
