Legalizing Assisted Dying Research Paper

Decent Essays
Personally no, I disagree. There is no need for a legislation legalizing assisted dying. Whether the person is disabled, has a life threatening disease or severely injured there is no such thing as a life not worth living. Legalizing assisted dying may prompt both doctors and families to give up on a patient’s recovery much too early.
There is also the religious aspect of the situation. Various religions believe that life is sacred and that helping to terminate it is morally unacceptable and will lead to you being sent straight to Hell. Therefore, it is harder for the families being that they believe “God does not send us any experience that we cannot handle” and they do not want their loved ones going to “hell”.

In 1991, Rodriguez was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease), a degenerative condition which would leave her unable to walk, speak, or swallow. Rodriguez knew that eventually she was going to experience a horrible death, brought on by choking or suffocation. Thus, Rodriguez requested for legal medical assistance to control the moment of her death, rather than suffering from the devastating end that the natural progression of her disease had in store for her. Outline for Arguments on PAS and Euthanasia When addressing the matter of Euthanasia and PAS, “we must first acknowledge that figuring out the benefits and harms of permitting euthanasia or PAS is speculative at best” (Emanuel). As well, it is important to acknowledge the fact that, “no matter which social policy regarding euthanasia or PAS is adopted - legalization or maintaining the current policy of permitting them in individual cases - there will be both benefits and harms” (Emanuel). In this argument, it will be shown that legalizing Euthanasia and PAS within the United States, will help people, by allowing terminally ill patients to realize the end of a good death or, more accurately, a create a higher quality dying experience for them.…

With a law that allows for assisted dying, family members can find comfort in knowing that the person they care about has control over how long they can continue to endure the pain and discuss how they plan to end it. Assisted dying also allows for families and friends to prepare for the aftermath of the death of their loved one. They can plan for a funeral or another commemorative ceremony properly because they are spared of the total shock and horror of knowing that somebody they love died. For these reasons, I believe assisted dying should be an option for all…

Assisted Death can be seen as a controversial subject because it begs the question of what is death and how valuable life is. There are a few valid points on disagreeing with assisted suicide such as the sanctity of life and receiving high-quality palliative care that make the topic argumentative. Death with Dignity should be legalized in more states to help those who are suffering, those who can no longer go on with the terminal illness they are fighting, and to end their long lasting hospital bills. Many patients who seek this should not have to change residences, especially since it causes more out-of-pocket…

Some of the reasons why I think Assisted Suicide should be allowed is because Why would we want our family members suffering more than they need to, Also because some people have diseases that can’t be cured and are going to die anyways and last but not least because Doctors can have more time to work on savable patients rather than working on someone who knows that they are going to die. I am pretty sure I am on the correct side and so do 70 percent of people in the United States with a survey that they have…
