These can range from small individuals claims all the way to huge group claims where thousands of people have experienced the same treatment based on their race. One of the most popular discrimination cases in recent memory is the Abercrombie suit filed for discrimination in their magazine and posters. Abercrombie and Fitch paid over $40 million to class members to settle the suit filed against them. In December 2005, the claims Administrator in the Gonzalez v. Abercrombie and Fitch discrimination lawsuit settlement sent award checks to the over ten thousand class members who submitted valid claim forms in accordance with the process set forth by the court in the April 2005 settlement order (Abercrombie discrimination lawsuit). The original law suit was based on that A&F did not hire any Hispanic or Black models for their magazines or poster layouts. They said that A&F did not consider any other races as the fitting style they were going for. This is a huge settlement and a huge win for these people. Another huge suit was that on cracker barrel. It claimed that the restaurant was segregating its black customers in the smoking section and then denying them service (FOX News). This suit included 42 plaintiffs’ all which received some sort of settlement for the way they were treated. Another famous discrimination suit was filed against Wal-Mart in June 2001. The suit claimed that Wal-Mart fired 2 people because they were an interracial couple. This happened in Russellville, Kentucky when Lottie Burden, who is white, and Jonnie Hines, who is black, was fired in 1989 for violating Wal-Mart’s fraternization and nepotism policies.
