All of these physical issues that occur will become more prevalent if marijuana is legalized. With society having access to marijuana on a regular basis, there will be more people smoking it as often as they like. Another negative physical issue associated with marijuana is respiratory problems similar to cigarette smokers as “marijuana and tobacco cigarettes share many of the same toxic chemicals” (Bechtold et al., 2015). These respiratory issues can stem from moderate use of marijuana, and with society being able to use it frequently, there will be even more prominence of these issues. However, there is much more evidence that proves exactly why it should not. Marijuana has been proven to cause anxiety and anxiety disorders in humans as well as be a large factor of depression. The high levels of THC affects the brain in many negative ways. There is also a lot of physical effects that marijuana has as it has many of the same chemicals in it that cigarettes have. Therefore, marijuana can cause several respiratory problems that can weaken the immune system and leave people very vulnerable to catch other illnesses. This leads to the last point of why it should not be legalized which is that with legalizing this drug, it is readily available for society to use as often as they would like.
