Speech Title: Left Lane Driving
Specific Purpose: left lane driving behavior
Thesis Statement: It’s surprising to learn that people still unsure about the correct use of the left lane, I hope to share some insight in order to clarify some misconceptions on the topic.

Introduction
Picture yourself in morning rush hour Have you ever been driving on the left lane when suddenly a car is right behind you, flashing their lights and tailgating? What do you do? Do you move to the right lane and let the car pass or do you stay in the left lane, as you are driving at the posted speed limit and find no reason to move? Are you aware that if you are on the left lane, that driver behind you might have the right of way, and perhaps your actions are creating problems and stopping the flow of traffic? According to the article “Should You Only Use The Left Lane To Pass? In 29 states, there are laws where any car moving slower than the surrounding traffic should move over to the right lane” (Parsons, Vanderburg, Andrews. 2017, January 25). I want to share some facts

Speed is crucial

a) Slow driving on the left lane has become an issue to the point that nowadays most states have some sort of law against slow drivers on the left lane, some states have started issuing citations or restricting the left lane to pass only signs to remind drivers to comply.
b) The federal government conducted a study where it showed that changing the speed from 55 mph to 65 mph showed that even though the speed was increase the same average speed remained unchanged. Moreover, it seem that drivers have tendencies and tend to feel safe driving at a speed that they are accustomed to.
c) Studies have shown that the speed is a big factor in preventing accidents as a good example is the German autobahn which has stretches that have no speed limit allowing the drivers to dictate speeds and have a good understanding on the proper use of the left lane which they only use for
