Case Against College Robert Lee

Case Against College Lee essentially claims that college is unnecessary and a huge waste of time. Lee’s statement that college is unnecessary is completely incorrect. She used several statistics to support her claim, but left out all of the opposing statistics. Lee used an example of her own son to strengthen her argument, but this does not support her thesis completely. College is worth the investment and time because of the success and sense of accomplishment that comes with obtaining a degree. College allows people to not only better themselves for their futures, but gives them the ability to pursue any career that they want to from electrician to English professor. By the early 21st century, college graduates received earnings about 90% higher than their high school graduate counterparts, a premium that has increased dramatically over the last quarter century (Torche). This statistic alone completely defeats Lee’s entire argument. This shows that earning a college degree yields, in most cases, a larger income that those who go into work right after high school. People who immediately go into the workforce almost always have a person who has obtained a degree in something, such as business, that controls their work and/or salary. In other words, a person that does not get a degree still depend on someone who has a degree. Therefore, the person without the degree still indirectly needs college to be
