Inductive coding as described by Thomas (2006) was used to analyze the lecture on racism and antiracism. Thomas (2006) described five steps when using inductive coding with initial reading and reading as the first steps. While reading I was taking notes about my first impression and observations about the text. After the initial reading with note taking, I read through the text again to either confirm, refute and or add more information from my first reading as suggested by Sánchez-algarra and Anguera (2013). The initial reading generated the themes like: ethnocentric monoculturalism, racism and antiracism, emotional reactions/ responses to racism, perceptions and experiences with racism, power, policies and racism.
