LeBron’s Lebron James, like most all-star basketball players today, has his own line of shoes. Through the Nike brand Lebron’s have become a very popular shoe with almost everybody. These shoes are solely made for playing basketball, but people buy them to wear every day and many never step onto a basketball court. These shoes represent something in our society today where people buy their items based on the fact that the items were made or worn by someone famous. We as a society usually want to go for the name brands because we believe they are made better than the generic store brands. We also buy name brands over generic brands because of social pressure. The media is also one reason that people prefer to buy the name brands over generics. Lebron James’ line of shoes are sleek, fashionable, and sporty. They come in many different styles and sizes. The LeBron line of shoes are basketball shoes, meant for playing basketball. However, most of the people buying Lebron’s, don’t play basketball and just wear them every day. Every time a new pair of Lebron’s, Jordan’s, or Curry’s hits the shelves, there are lines out the door to get them when they come out. Our society is more materialistic today. We will spend more money on anything with a name we know and recognize, rather than something made from the same material and holds up just as good. We buy products with the famous name attached to these products because we worship fame. We want to be famous and when we can’t we buy shoes that have a famous name attached to them, so we feel like we are connected to someone famous.
