    1. Why is it important for educators to know about systematic learner variability? It is important for educators to know about systematic learner variability because the concept of the "Illusory Average Student" does not exist; "cognitive neurosceince has shown that there is no average student" (DL Series No. 1, 2012). Therefore, it is important for educators to know that student ability varies widely both within and between subjects and concepts for students, and even more importantly, that this variability is normal (DL Series No. 1, 2012). Finally, once you learn about learner variability you can begin to think systematically about learner variability, and from there you can begin to predict for this variability in your lesson plans…

Throughout this semester, we have written two major papers that really display my capabilities as a writer. By evaluating these two pieces with the learning outcomes established at the beginning of this semester, outcomes 1, 2, and 3 are most applicable when gauging my progress in this course. Learning outcome 1 is, "Demonstrate academic research and writing skills in essays and projects to participate in a scholarly conversation" Learning outcome 2 is, "Demonstrate critical reading through a knowledge of the forms and functions of a variety of texts" Learning Outcome 3 is, "Follow a research writing process that includes developing a topic, locating and evaluating sources (including peer-reviewed), composing in response to those sources, and revising and reflecting on that process;" Each of these outcomes I believe I have met by using them as goals when writing in and out of class. In my essay "Survivors and their Children: Examining the Holocaust's Multigenerational Effects" I discuss the impact the Holocaust has on those who survived it and on their children.…

This story is really about making decisions, and a decision is a choice made from available alternatives. Stanley’s decision was based on wearing the warmest clothes he had, which was an old army overcoat and headgear. His selection presented a non-programmed decision, which is a decision made in response to a situation that is unique, is poorly defined, and largely unstructured, and has important consequences. Stanley’s decision displayed non programmed characteristics, because it was made in response to the cold weather that made him select the warmest clothes he owned, which was an old army overcoat, and headgear. His decision was highly unstructured because Stanley’s warmest clothes were the old army overcoat and headgear.…

I feel that the LearnSmart is a very important resource to me, my success in this class and as I take the rest of my courses toward my degree. By taking the practice quizzes in LearnSmart, it is a great way to test your knowledge of the subject matter you were assigned. It was good for me to see the topics that I knew well and to see the subjects that I was not as familiar with immediately after answering the questions. I was then able to back and re-read the material until I was comfortable enough to take the practice quiz again. After reviewing My Success Plan last week, I knew how I liked to learn and study and what areas I needed to improve.…

The style of promoting members out of the faculty that is currently in place is the typical older promotion style of giving preference to incumbents of the institution who have been there the longest. This reliance on their proximity and involvement with the institution has become the downfall of many institutions, including our own university. One of my professors in my Organizational Development class was even outlining how the current administration outlines its accomplishments and growth in the institution by stating, for example, how many buildings were built and facilities were opened. He stated that the member of the administration was clearly not given enough training to realize that the measures of growth and performance should not…

Not all learning styles can fit into a specific situation, there are times when a kinesthetic style is better than an aural. By becoming proficient in all learning styles, I would become flexible in all learning situations. The student should be able to shift towards the professors teaching styles in addition to exceling in their learning environment. Now, I work the best with the aural, kinesthetic, and read/write learning styles, with the weakest like being the visual learning style. By taking the content learned to the next level by shifting it across learning styles, I would gain a greater understanding towards it.…

The guide has an array of different activities that could activate students quite well. However, it is in the assessment portion that seems to be the weakest. The guide does not include assessment tools; it only offers acquiring pages through the BLM’s and the icons. The guide does come with answer keys for the BLM’s which could possibly be used as an assessment strategy. Despite this the icons and BLM could easily inspire some assessment strategies such as reflections and projects.…
