Learning To Read And Write In Kindergarten Essay

Improved Essays
I remember being taught how to read and write in Kindergarten. I can still recall how I would love to sit and listen to the teacher read to us. As she recited, we followed along in our own books. I would practice reading at home with my parents. I never liked reading to myself. I find it tough to sit down and read a book for school or pleasure. I lose interest and focus in a short time. I have to force myself to concentrate while I am reading. Reading a newspaper, a book, or even a small article in a magazine feels like a chore to me. I tried getting books that were turned into movies. I loved the story line or plot, so I assumed I would like the book. I have tried that for a few days, but never finished even one book. I have tried reading …show more content…
My instructors or my parents never tried to adjust me to my right hand. I wrote well for many years this way. When I was nine, I was thrown off my horse and I broke my left arm in numerous places. I had to have surgery to fix it properly. For three months I had a cast from above my elbow to the middle knuckles of my hand. This is when I had to learn to write with my right hand, and even to this day I can write with either hand.
I enjoy writing essays, but I hate English classes. I seem to excel at writing longrr essays compared to writing a couple of paragraphs. I have a problem with being long-winded when I write. I have to go back through what I have written and try to condense my paper.
I know that once I become a Network Engineer I will have to write both short and long reports. I try to remember that while I complete assignments for school. I think of my homework as a report my future employer might be reading someday. I try to think I am the one reading the report and I try to stay on the topic. I proofread my work two or three times and use grammar and spell check before I turn it in. If possible, I will ask someone else to read my essay or report to me. I think hearing it helps me find errors and missing

I have been reading ever since I could remember. I was read to when I was little as well. I do not recall learning to read, only that when my mother sat me down to start learning how to read, I already knew how. All throughout elementary school, I participated in the Accelerated Reader (also called AR) program. I loved it because you would read books, and then takes quizzes on those books.…

Throughout life we all learn to read. Maybe on our own or maybe we were read to as a child. As a youth, I was not read to by a parent or grandparent. My brother Dale read to me when I was little as far as I can remember. Furthermore, when middle school began, I started reading on my own, but only one book made a lasting impression.…

Will Treaty All my life I’ve hated the concept of reading, I would always say, “why would I read when I could just watch a movie?” I never liked it because it would make me so tired just staring at the pages, zoning out to the point where I would be thinking about something else entirely. I tried to solve this problem when I had to read for book reports back in high school. I used an audio book that I would find on youtube that I could follow the words of the book while he/she reads it on the screen. I found that this helped quite a bit.…

My Writing Class Is A Challenge Many students of us have to face with our challenge such as math or science. For students like me who is studying at HACC, wring an essay, doing research and citing sources in written assignment is very difficult. Surviving English Comp 1 Writing Class Writing is one thing I hate the most. It was hard to write an essay for the first time because I did not have the knowledge or concept of this writing style. Before this class, I thought I knew what writing was all about by expressing my thoughts, ideas and feeling. I know now that I had the wrong concept on how to write. I can express my thoughts, ideas and feeling, but if I put them in the wrong contents it does not lead the reader to the point of the essay.…

    Reflection On Writing

Previously, I was taught to write now and revise later. Essentially, I had word vomit to work with from my first draft. In high school, we were also drilled on closing sentences in paragraphs and papers. While I was revising my first draft, I was focusing on closing sentences (not even giving a second thought to my thesis or opening sentences). The lack of attention to my thesis and topic sentences showed in my graded draft.…

Reflection on exam I am not adept at writing, hence, generally speaking, writing essays gives me anxiety. So when the time is not unlimited, and factoring in my inability to clearly express my thoughts on paper, I am unable to perform my best. Perhaps my major problem is my anxiety, as I often skim quickly over passages and immediately get stuck on small specifics that I pick up at first glance when feeling pressured. I really strive to write scholarly literary analyses and I feel disappointed and frustrated because no matter how hard I try to think deeper and connect the device with its purpose, I never seem to succeed.…

Writing is one of the things that comes easy for me, but I feel that my real weakness stems from not wanting to read. Although, for the few books that I’ve read in my life, I did enjoy the reading in most cases after I got started. I take it that some people love to read, so they assume that their students or their peers feel the same way, but nothing could be farther from the truth when it comes to me reading stories. My struggle for this class will be reading all of the short stories.…

I am an English major, and I absolutely, positively, hate writing essays. It has often been suggested to me that since I have such a strong opposition to the task, perhaps I should elect to change majors, and while those people do make a good point, the idea of carefully presenting my ideas in a concise, organized manner has yet to seem revolting enough to make me back down. See, trudging through unpleasant situations is my only talent, a talent that was necessary to have when I was a candidate for the International Baccalaureate Diploma. That is not to say that International Baccalaureate English classes were miserable. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed dedicating a year of my life to poetry, but it was miserable to have every single essay marked down because of convolution.…

Preschool, elementary school, middle school, and high school all systems made up by our society with the sole purpose of educating our youth. In our society education is very important it 's very valuable and it can shape how we approach our lives in this so called “real world”. The elementary school I attended was named Crestview Elementary it was closed down about four years ago and turned into an adult school. When I was enrolled there it was a ten minute walk from my home, just right up the street. I lived in a lower-middle income neighborhood but other students at that school came from wealthier middle income neighborhoods.…
