Malcolm was a street hustler and did not decide to further his education until he was Imprisoned. He had made attempts to try to read but was unable to make sense of most of the words in the text he tried reading which motivated him to pick up the dictionary and start writing every page starting from the letter “A” in the dictionary to his tablet. When he was done with one page from the dictionary; front and back. He’d revise what he copied on his tablet and say out loud everything he wrote down over and over again to himself. He continued using this method. He eventually was able to successfully read to understand the things he was reading. After he accomplished expanding his vocabulary he persisted to create greater goals for himself. He read as many books as he could about black history. He was so interested in reading that he often read fifteen hours a day. Even when the lights went out every night at ten he used the light from the hall to continue reading. He’d read sometimes till 3 or 4 in the morning. Even after he was released from prison he still continued to read. He mentioned to a writer that “ you will never catch me with a free fifteen minutes, which i’m not studying something I feel might help the black man”(281 Malcolm X). He used his prison made education to fight against segregation. As he states “I don’t think anyone ever got more out of going to prison than I did. In fact, prison enabled me to study far more intensively..” (Malcolm X
