The learning theory is a process primarily to a somewhat permanent behavior change or potential behavior change. Operant conditioning or instrumental conditioning is a form of associative learning in which the consequences of a behavior change the probability of the behavior’s occurrence. Keeping the above definitions in mind, I formed two operant conditioning techniques to establish a positive reinforcement for a child who was engaging in behaviors that was affecting others. As a psychologist, I first knew the importance of establishing a relationship with the child, the introduce the first operant conditioning by using the avoidance learning method and lastly the second operant conditioning method by using a positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement is following a given behavior in order to increase the regularity of that behavior. I would implement this technique for about a month or so to form a routine. As a requirement I would need feedback from the teacher and the parent on how this technique is working and any concerns or improvements that should be made. The technique I would use would involve a behavioral chart and a weekly reward system. The chart would have the child’s name. The chart would use the colors Green, Yellow and Red. The Green would stand for good behavior, Yellow for needs improvement and Red for Unpleasant. The child would then have to maintain their behavior on green all day in order to receive a reward at the end of the day. The reward would be based off the teacher’s preference. I believe this technique will give the child a daily goal in order to implement a positive reinforcement. I will review the results using a process of three steps. I would first review the results alone, then with the teacher and lastly with the teacher and the parent. After, receiving their feedback, we would discuss which method worked better in eliminating the behavior. As a result, the chosen technique would then be implemented into the child’s routine at school and home so that the positive reinforcement will continue and the behavior is thus unlearned. I would also, implement that I am still able to provide counsel to the child at least once a month so that I can continue to monitor the child and look for behaviors that may form at a later time that would harm others or the child
