For example before I would perform a monologue or a scene I would have to do research on who the character is, where they are, and what is the character’s purpose. It reminded me of applying for a job, or writing a paper because I would have to do research on it first. On top of teaching job skills it also helps build confidence, and learn some social skills. Before I truly got into theatre, I wasn’t very confident in myself, and I thought that I couldn’t achieve much of anything. But my teacher Mr. Cottom taught me something that I’ll never forget, “You can achieve anything you put your mind to. As long as YOU believe you can accomplish it you will.” After hearing that I started to stop being afraid of failing, and eventually that gave me confidence in everything that I do. Now I also said it teaches social skills, and the reason I say that is because you have to be able to communicate with people to be able to get things done. When in a play, I learned that I had to talk to the other actors, the director(s), stage managers, and the techies to be able to do the best I could for the show. Over time I started to learn how to approach people, and have the confidence/ability to talk to
