According to The Vark learning styles questionnaire the two learning styles that I learn best with best are aural and kinesthetic. Aural means I learn best when hearing the information spoken and by asking questions about the concept I am learning. The other way I learn best is being kinesthetic which means I use my five senses and hands on experiences to help me learn. The Aural side of me likes to remember stories, examples, and jokes, to be to relate them to the concept I am learning. I have found that I when attended class and really focus on what the instructor or professor is teaching I am able to grasp the concept that is being taught.…
According to Teacher Input Survey, Thomas learns best when concepts are presented auditory, which means he learns through listening. His teacher reports providing peer tutoring. His teacher also reports that he interacts well with his peers and is a respectful individual. As stated by Mrs. Dunaway on the Parent IEP Input Survey, Thomas' regular educational activities include math, making cookies, crafts, and drawing.…
According to the Learning Styles Inventory. My most developed and strongest learning styles are bodily-kinesthetic, verbal-linguistic, musical, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. The test reveals that I am not highly developed in any particular type of intelligence and I am weak and underdeveloped in visual-spatial, logical-mathematical, and naturalist intelligences. The book suggests that as a person with stronger interpersonal strengths, study strategies such as going over notes with fellow students are helpful. Based on my results as a strong verbal-linguistic individual, rewriting my notes in order to eliminate excess information and to hone into the important ideas, would be beneficial to my success in this course.…
My parents have always challenged me to strive to do my best since I was a child. From pushing me to learn how to ride a bike at age five, to striving me to achieve a higher ACT score to attend the college I love, I learned how to become very independent and credible. As I approached my high school years, I changed mentally by creating a positive mindset after my freshman year. As to this day, getting a 3.11-grade point average has affected me in both positive and negative ways. One characteristic that I figured out about myself is that I am a person who learns from mistakes due to the fact that I am a tactile learner.…
For instance if a child is given a picture of a duck, then a picture of an abstract image such as an ink blot image; then he/she is asked to evaluate what each image is. The response to the picture with the duck will be clear and precise. Meanwhile the response he/she will give as to what the ink blot image is would be unclear. Meaning that students must be able to connect with what is being taught visually or tapping into their students sensory abilities. When teachers challenge students and stimulate them using different sensory cues such as sight, smell, taste and touch; they are tapping into their sensory memory.…
In order for an individual to become successful in their college studies while attending classes, it is inevitable that college students evaluate how he or she processes information. There is assessments, such as the learning style inventory, that will help individuals identify their methods for learning and processing information. Moreover, having knowledge of the assessment results can help assist people in finding strategies to enhance their learning potential. Some people may have more than just one learning style, while others may have just one, and may use the learning style under different circumstances. There are no right or wrong answer for preferred learning style; however, it is imperative for people to know their own learning technique.…
The Myth of Learning Styles “If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” This quote, by Ignacio Estrada, encapsulates the current American view of the learning styles theory. What learning style do you prefer to learn by? Some styles are more dominantly taught by educators than others.…
According to my assessment results I am a Sensing Learner. Which means I love facts, I don’t like surprises and complications, I’m patient with details and good at memorizing. It also states that I don’t like courses that have nothing to do with the real world and that I also tend to be more practical and careful. My assessment results are remarkably amazing seeing that all of the traits of being a Sensing Learning match up to how I learn and view things. Over the four years of my high school career I really came familiar with what helps me learn and what distracts me.…
arrived on time for his evaluation. He presented as pleasant and quiet, and did not attempt to engage the examiner in conversation. He readily responded to the examiner’s questions prior to the beginning of the evaluation, which allowed for some rapport building. He exhibited good work habits and appeared interested in the testing process, as he was attentive to the test stimuli and adequately followed the examiner’s instructions. Taseen was cooperative and engaged throughout the evaluation.…
Not all learning styles can fit into a specific situation, there are times when a kinesthetic style is better than an aural. By becoming proficient in all learning styles, I would become flexible in all learning situations. The student should be able to shift towards the professors teaching styles in addition to exceling in their learning environment. Now, I work the best with the aural, kinesthetic, and read/write learning styles, with the weakest like being the visual learning style. By taking the content learned to the next level by shifting it across learning styles, I would gain a greater understanding towards it.…
When working with people that are more inclined to another learning style or method, you can learn from them while also helping to teach your own learning style to those around you. For a kinesthetic learner, learning how to make more succinct and cogent notes would help when there is something of importance that is mentioned within the learning experience that is complex enough to not be able to commit it to memory; something that is more of an abstract quality would be an example of this. The ability to listen, write it down, and read it back without any signal loss is key to increasing your multimodal learning experience. Additionally, being able to visualize something, as well as identify from a presented visual artifact, is a trait that many strong kinesthetic learners need to increase skills within. The abstract modeling of something within the mental space can prove advantageous when dealing with several ideologies within a chosen field; such interventional modeling, disease cluster grouping, and biostatistical analyses within public health journal articles.…
Going from grade to grade, school got a little easier and I could pay attention a little better. I learned later in life, my learning style was called Haptic. A haptic learning style is for someone who is unorganized, fidgety and doesn’t care how long it takes to get finished. There are several advantages to having a haptic learning style. I can remember anything, I have a great imagination and I sometimes get done faster than other people.…
Multisensory teaching is one important aspect of instruction for many students. Effective multisensory instruction is explicit, direct, cumulative, intensive, and focused on the structure of language. Multisensory learning involves the use of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic-tactile pathways simultaneously to enhance memory and learning (Learning Abilities, 2012). Hence a Multisensory teaching approach involves three main teaching strategies: visual, auditory and kinesthetic. Multisensory teaching respects that all children learn differently and from a variety of teaching methods (Ledford, 2014).…
