Reflective Essay: What Are My Personal Beliefs On Education

learning is an interactive process. I believe kids should always be the main focus when teaching, as they are the reason we teach. Their interests should be just as important as following the curriculum and standards of the school. I also think that their learning should be interactive by them working in groups and discussions. By working together, they get exposed to different ideas, have conversations with other students, and get a better educational experience overall. These philosophies are the ones that can best benefit both myself, and more importantly, my students. The prompt then asks “What are your personal beliefs on education?” My personal beliefs on education are similar to those of John Dewey. As stated by Werner Lumm, “He believed …show more content…
The quote based on education that inspires me is, “Some are managers and others are subordinates. But the great thing for one as for the other is that each shall have had the education which enables him to see within his daily work all there is in it of large and human significance” (Learning as Freedom, 2012). This quote is a truly beautiful one. It inspired me to pursue the ideal that I already believed: that education is meant to tap into one’s true potential. Through education, we can discoverer latent talents and use them to better ourselves and others. A second quote I found based on teaching that inspired me is, “Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity” (Horace Mann – The Father Of American Education, 2009). This quote reinforces my drive to be a teacher. Through teaching students and helping them realize their potential, I will have helped humanity continue down a brighter path. I truly believe that through teaching young children, we make some success in the journey known as life. Finally, from the speaker in the Horace Man video I found a quote for motivation. Based on Horace Mann’s beliefs the speaker said, “He believed that we are a splendid creation of God, and are meant to be equal in all things” (Horace Mann, 2009). …show more content…
I believe that teaching my students in my classroom will never get old, and that I’ll be able to do it for a long time; ten years at the least. I want to be able to help children for a long time; just like my mother has for so long in her career. I may work towards moving up the chain of command someday if the opportunity presents itself. However, I don’t see that as a likely event. If I were to say I wanted to move on, I would be saying that I’m tired of teaching in the classroom. I doubt this will ever happen, as seeing my students and helping them every day is more than enough reason for me. My goals in short are to earn my Lutheran Teacher’s degree, get a job at a Christian school, and work teaching children for as long as possible. This is where I feel that I belong, and this is where I have set my goals as a

Nikki Hamilton’s Philosophy of Education Education is fulfilling of curiosity. I did not come to the realization until I was much older in life and had two children of my own that being a teacher was where I was the happiest. That being a teacher was without a doubt my calling. My leadership philosophy is one that is rooted in the strong belief that it must be a continuous quest to motivate all students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners, while possessing outstanding character. This includes assisting students with discovering their talents and interests, therefore developing a love of learning, while developing into ethical, productive citizens. Accomplishing this requires a leader who is knowledgeable in pedagogy and curriculum, including the use of data and current assessments to enhance instruction, and who possesses outstanding communication skills, the ability to manage an operation’s resources effectively, promotes collaboration and teamwork, and is passionate and committed to helping students learn. With the first essay that we worked on I did a memoir I really enjoyed working on this paper, In class we were able to get freedom to add pictures to are pictures make it a little bit more creative I certainly was not used to this; I’ve been told my whole schooling experience that you have the intro and the conclusion and three body paragraphs. The memoir I was able to write to what I felt like I needed it to be, add pictures so it could appeal more to the eye when reading and also made it easier.…

Over this lesson my beliefs that education's purpose was to get you into a good college have been corrected. I now believe that the purpose of education is to make you the best person possible for society as a whole. Articles that I’ve read such as Marc Prensky's “The Goal of Education is Becoming” and MLK’s “The Purpose of Education” back up my claim. Prensky’s belief is “The real goal of education, and of school, is becoming—becoming a "good" person and becoming a more capable person than when you started. Learning is nothing but a means of accomplishing that goal, and it is dangerous to confuse the ends with the means”.…
